Billing Aquadrome Northampton - 2004

After the dissappointment of the FRA World Championships, the FRA forum announced an impromptu event at Billing Aquadrome. Never having been to a live robot event outside of Robot Wars filming we decided to go along. The first day we went along as spectators, more to see what happened and we were hooked, we went back the following day with Chompie and had some fun and learnt a few valuable lessons.

Our first fight was against Tanto and Kan-Opener, some bad manouvering on Si's part and we were hit almost straight away by Kan-Opener and were left on the side of the arena dead as a doornail.

It turned out to be a dodgy crystal, a problem that was quickly recitified and we tried again.

Fight 2 was a lot better we were against the St Agro team and Iron Awe III. We drafted in Simon's Dad to do the weapons that day and he got a little over zealous and did a little damage to our opponents and lots to us, he even tried to take a chunk out of the arena wall at one point, eeeek!

Peter - "Did I do that? Oh dear!"
Simon - "Doh!"

Damage to poor Chompie resulted in a very bent and twisted jaw which ripped and twisted the framework. The photo is almost full on front the angle of the jaw and the eyebrow show the extent of the twists.
Lots of swearing, welding and strengthening were required to get him ready for his next event.

The super ant weight arena, complete with a working flipper and pit, not a house robot in site though hehe! The Antweights fighting it out are Frogoid which is Tony's and Flippant which is Mike's. Their heavy weights are Pretty Lil Flipper and The Pressure

Rob Grimm finding a rather inventive use for Iron Awe III. A nice comfy place to sit is something us roboteers miss when out and about at robot gigs.

The lovely Mr Stu goes green with envy lol, he was attacked by the Pillow Torque team who's weapon of choice was a funky can of green hair colour. Personally I think it suits him and goes with his eyes :oÞ
